Q. I love the blueberry sod that is used in the Gardens. Where can I get some for my garden?

A. Most of the blueberry sod that we used in the Gardens came either from a supplier down east or locally.  In either case it was hand dug out of fields that were going to be dug up and developed for other uses.  I know of no one that grows blueberry sod for sale.  Individual blueberry plants are available for sale in pots from some of the nurseries in Maine, such as Pierson, O’Donal’s, Boothbay Region Greenhouses and Anderson Farms.  I always wonder why one couldn’t sow wild blueberries on acidic soil here in the northeast and start your own.  I’m sure there must be plenty of discarded blueberries from some of the growers that would be available to experiment with.
