Exhibit: Maurice 'Jake Day: Beloved Maine (through May 26)

Exhibit: Maurice ‘Jake Day: Beloved Maine (through May 26)

'Beloved Maine' is a comprehensively curated selection of Jake Day's serious works that bring to the canvas his deep love for Maine and its landscapes, botanicals, and places dear to the artist and his family. The work has been chosen by curator Seaver Leslie from among the paintings in collections of the Day family, other individuals, and Baxter Sate Park.

Jake spent much time in the Katahdin area and Baxter State Park and was inspired by the beauty of Maine's woods and its timeless wildernes. His wilderness watercolors, together with his paintings of Maine's coast, are testament to the important life's work of an important artist.

During his lifetime, he garnered numerous awards and other honors and was named by Governor Percival Baxter as "Artist in Residence" at Baxter State Park - the only individual ever to received that title.

There will be a public reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres on Friday, April 18, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

During 'A Day of Jake Day' on Saturday, April 19, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., people who knew Jake Day and admire his art and legacy will speak at a celebration of the artist and this unique exhibit.
