‘Wind & Light’ exhibition of kinetic sculpture by George Sherwood
There's a treat in store for all who enjoyed the kinetic sculpture of George Sherwood at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in 2007 - and for every visitor between Wednesday, June 11, and Sunday, July 27. Not only is 'Wind Orchid, the major piece that mesmerized visitors, now part of our permanent collection, thanks to a generous donor; but this year's exhibit curated by June LaCombe will consist entirely of kinetic sculpture by this acclaimed artist.
This new exhibit, "Wind & Light," will include numerous works by Sherwood - each of which will turn and move in intriguing way with even the lightest breeze. The light will reflect off the shining steel, reflecting the weather and surroundings. Evoking plant and animal forms and capturing their movement in uncanny ways, the works in this exhibit will greatly increase visitors' experience and capture their imagination.
The exhibit is open during regular Gardens hours (9:00-5:00 daily) and is free with regular admission (Gardens memebers are always admitted free).
An opening reception on Saturday, June 14, will feature a talk by the artist at 2:00 p.m. followed by a garden party from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Then, on Wednesday, June 25, at 10:00 a.m., curator June LaCombe will offer a tour of the show.
Except for 'Wind Orchid,' the sculpture in the show will be for sale.
