How much do tickets cost?
Tickets purchased ahead of time online at $14 for adults, $8 for children, $12 for seniors and $36 for families (2 adults, 2 children). Tickets purchased on site are $2 more per ticket. Member prices for Gardens Aglow are always $8 for adults and $5 for children, whether tickets are bought online or on-site.
How can I buy tickets?
Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time online to save money, help regulate the flow of traffic, and help ensure all guests have an exceptional experience at Gardens Aglow. Online tickets are at a special rate of $2 off the onsite ticket price, and pre-purchased printed tickets enable guests to go through our express ticket lane upon arrival. You can also buy tickets at the door of the event when you arrive. Tickets are non-refundable.
When I buy tickets, will they be mailed?
No, they will not be mailed. An email will be sent to the email address you provide when purchasing your ticket, and there will be printable tickets included on the second page of an attachment in that email.
Should I print my tickets?
Yes. Guests who print their tickets ahead of time will be able to go through our express line. If you are unable to print, the front desk can look your reservation up by the name it was made under, or you can show them on your smart phone or other mobile device.
You’re sold out online for the time I want to come – can I come anyway?
While we do strongly encourage guests to buy tickets ahead of time to save money, we do sell tickets at the door. On evenings that have sold out online, we strongly discourage attempting walk-ins as we expect very busy nights with larger crowds. Parking will be tight, and we cannot guarantee that a space will be available for you if you do not have tickets. Our advice is to come at a different time to ensure an enjoyable visit.
What if there’s bad weather?
We’ll post on our website and our Facebook page if we need to close because of the weather. We will only be closing in cases of extreme weather. If you had purchased tickets for a night that we close, we will automatically refund the full price of your tickets. Tickets are transferable to any open night of Gardens Aglow this season, so if your local weather prevents you from coming on your scheduled evening you may use your tickets another time. Maine weather can be unpredictable, so our advice is to call if you’re unsure and to dress appropriately for nighttime outside activities. We have found that slightly rainy nights are a good time to come, as the crowds are less and the lights look beautiful reflecting off of the puddles.
Will Gardens Aglow be accessible for everyone?
Gardens Aglow takes place in our more accessible upper gardens, which are easier to walk around in. We will also have complimentary wheelchairs as well as electric scooters available on a first come, first served basis, weather permitting. Please call on the afternoon of your visit to hear about the accessibility options available that evening if you are concerned about the weather.
Are you providing shuttles?
Yes, we will be having shuttles running continuously from downtown Boothbay Harbor up to the Gardens from 4-9pm. The shuttles will be leaving from the municipal lot by the Boothbay Harbor Firehouse and Town Office, located at 11 Howard St, Boothbay Harbor. We recommend parking in downtown Boothbay Harbor, enjoying Boothbay Festival of Lights and then coming for your time slot of Gardens Aglow. There is also a festive warming and information station inside of the Boothbay Harbor Town Office.
How long should I plan on staying? How long am I allowed to stay?
We recommend planning on spending an hour at the Gardens to really get the full experience from Gardens Aglow. You are, of course, welcome to stay longer than your time slot to fully experience the magic. Gardens Aglow closes promptly at 9pm.
Can I come early to walk around the gardens?
No. The gardens are closed for safety reasons before and after the event. We close promptly at 9pm.
What should I wear?
While there will be family activities in the Bosarge Family Education Center and dining in the cafe, Gardens Aglow is an outdoor event and so we recommend dressing for the weather. November and December nights in Maine can be very chilly, so we suggest layers and warm, comfortable walking shoes!
Should I bring my flashlight?
Flashlights can be helpful getting around in the darker areas of the parking lots, but throughout the Gardens there will be hundreds of thousands of lights to light the way.
Do I have to pay for parking?
Nope! But we are limited by the amount of parking spaces that we have. Please consider carpooling with family and friends to make sure that everyone has an enjoyable time at Gardens Aglow, and to ensure shorter wait times for parking.
What food options will be available?
The Cafe will be open for guests of Gardens Aglow, and a special menu will be served. Cafe hours will be from 4-8pm with the last seating at 7:45pm. There is also some grab and go food available along the path, as well as in the Bosarge Family Education Center. Reservations in the cafe will only be taken for groups of 6 or more – please contact Amy Williams at (207) 633-8084.
Will the Gardens Gift Shop be open?
Yes, with a special holiday selection, too! The gift shop will also be offering the type of lights that we use for the event at low cost in the Gift Shop starting in mid-September. Get them while you can to help boost your own light display at home, or for part of our lighting contest.
Where should we go to eat / to stay overnight? What else is there to do in town?
Check out the Boothbay Festival of Lights website or Facebook page to see a full listing of what restaurants, hotels and shops are open, as well as what other events are happening around town during the Boothbay Festival of Lights.
What if I am coming as part of a group visit?
We do offer a special group rate for tours or groups coming to Gardens Aglow together. Group discounts (groups are 10 or more people arriving in the same vehicle at the same time) can only be purchased ahead of time. Do I still have to buy tickets to Gardens Aglow if I’m a member?
Yes. The Gardens close for the season on October 31, and Gardens Aglow is a special ticketed event. Members receive special pricing for the event, whether they buy tickets ahead of time online or at the front desk when they arrive.
How much do tickets cost for members?
We are offering a rate of $8 for member adults, and $5 for the children of members. This special rate for members is also being offered on site – member tickets are the same price online and at the front desk.
Can I use the guest passes that come with my membership for the event?
No, Gardens Aglow is a special event outside of the Garden’s regular operating hours. Guest passes may not be used for any special events outside of regular hours.
How many member priced tickets can I purchase for Gardens Aglow?
We want you to bring your family and friends to this event! Current members may purchase up to 4 additional adult and unlimited child tickets per visit at the member discounted price when you accompany your guests to the Gardens. This member benefit is limited to 4 additional adult tickets per membership, not per cardholder.
Can I lend my membership card to a friend or family member?
No. Memberships are nontransferable and are valid only for the person whose name appears on the card.
Is my member discount in the Gardens Gift Shop still valid during Gardens Aglow?
Yes, you will still receive a 10% member discount in the gift shop during the event.
