Planting pots is a heck of a lot easier than preparing garden beds. And a whole lot more fun! Explore this infinite world of mini Edens with staff horticulturalist Diane Walden and jump start your potted garden. Diane will share lots of her favorite container-garden combinations, designs, and planting tips. She will also offer individual design solutions as needed by participants. Container gardening is a great niche for, ahem, Golden Gardeners (of which tribe Diane is a proud member!), but she urges folks of all ages to sign up. The class will consist of a slide presentation followed by a hands-on planting activity so participants can go home with a planted pot. Diane will also treat the class to a sneak peek at the Gardens’ 2013 containers.
This class, appropriate for all adults, is part of the new “Gardening Later in Life” series developed by Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ therapeutic horticulture coordinator, Irene Brady Barber. Each class focuses on practical, realistic options you can implement in your own garden space, whether small or expansive, so you can continue to garden long into the future. Diane Walden and another staff horticulturist, Dick Zieg, will each step in to lead one class, with Irene’s help, in their areas of expertise.
