Education – Children, Families, Schools
Engage your natural curiosity with a program at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Children and their families can delve into the intriguing worlds of plants, gardens, nature, science, art, and culture. And to further enrich your learning experience, combine your children’s or family program with a visit to the Bibby and Harold Alfond Children’s Garden and the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses, or a walk along our many trails. Join in the fun!
We welcome partnerships with schools and teachers, too; and we offer nature camps and other exciting learning opportunities for students who live in Maine or are here for a visit.
Unless otherwise noted, children’s and family programs require pre-registration. To sign up or for more information, visit our Calendar of Events pages, call (207) 633-4333, or stop by the Visitor Center.
Reflected in the Children’s Garden inspired by great children’s books by Maine authors is our devotion to learning and reading. The Story Barn, which has a pig weather vane and spider web taken right out of Charlotte’s Web, contains an astonishing collection of books for young visitors to read there or elsewhere in the garden. If you want to see a list of the books we feature and recommend, many with a Maine “accent,” and even a few in other languages, please click here.
We’re always looking for new additions for our Story Barn book collection. Click here to view a list of books that we would like to see in the Garden! If you would like to donate a book or have title suggestions, please email eellingson@mainegardens.org or call (207) 633-4333. We accept copies of books or money to cover the cost of purchasing a book.
