Docent Training - B FreemanHow do we teach and train volunteers at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens? There are as many kinds of training as there are volunteer jobs, and we have created programs to allow volunteers to attain a high level of comfort with their tasks. That is, after all, when volunteering becomes satisfying and fun.

The most intensive training is for docents. What’s a docent? A docent can be you if you are willing to first, put in about 10 hours learning about Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and its history, plants and other natural elements; second, take some practice tours with your instructors; and finally, guide tours of the Gardens on your own. It’s fun, it’s free, and the instruction is fascinating and useful for anyone who’s interested in our botanical garden – or gardens in general.
