You can spend a day or more simply exploring Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and you’ll surely want to return again and again to experience the Gardens in different seasons and conditions. But don’t forget that the Boothbay region offers many other opportunities for visitors, as well.

Whether you want to take in sweeping views and quintessential Maine landscapes; go fishing, visit a lighthouse, enjoy a railway museum, or take a scenic boat ride; or shop, eat lobster, and enjoy the region’s year-round special events and festivities, this is the place for you.

Boothbay Harbor is also a jumping-off point for spectacular Monhegan Island, about 10 miles offshore. For more information about the Boothbay region, visit www.boothbayharbor.com.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and the region as a whole, is about an hour’s drive from Portland to the southwest, Camden and Rockland to the northeast, and the capital city of Augusta inland. It’s several hours from both Bangor and Mt. Desert Island, where Bar Harbor is located.

There are full-service airports in Portland and Bangor in Maine; Manchester, N.H.; and Boston. A popular train, the Downeaster, offers rail service between Portland and Boston; and motor coaches also run between Boston, including Logan Airport, and Portland, and even mid-coast Maine. Nearby Wiscasset has a small airport for private planes.
