In April, Maine’s amphibians migrate to vernal pools to breed and lay eggs. During this session, participants will spend time exploring the Gardens’ many vernal pools in search of, among other residents, wood frog and spotted salamander eggs. Participants will learn how to tell the difference between these eggs as they help count egg masses for our annual survey. They will also learn what makes vernal pools unique and important, gaining an understanding of their role in the forest ecosystem.
