Accessibility

Our buildings and central gardens are ADA compliant, making them fully wheelchair and stroller accessible. The terrain in the remainder of the campus varies – the paths range from pavers and compacted-gravel walkways to trails through wooded areas. Our shuttle runs continuously throughout the day; please check with the front desk upon arrival for a map of shuttle stop locations.

Electric scooters are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis at the front desk in the Visitor Center. Rentals are $12 for nonmembers and $9 for members. We also have wheelchairs available at no charge, on a first-come, first-served basis — simply ask at the front desk when checking in. For more information, call our offices at (207) 633-8000, or visit the front desk in the Visitor Center.

Our one-hour accessible cart tours are led by trained Gardens’ docents, rain or shine, on our quiet electric cart. The cart can accommodate up to five (5) people. Seating preference is decided on a first-come-first-served basis. These tours are a wonderful opportunity for those who may not otherwise be able to walk the Gardens.

Tours are offered daily from May 1 through October 20. The fee for the tour is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers, except on Wednesdays when the accessible cart tours are free.

Registration is required ahead of time on our websiteAdmission to the Gardens is not included in the cost of the tour.
