Creating Paper Flowers Workshop (Ages 9-13)
Register Now:Monday & Tuesday, August 24 & 25, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
In this botanical art workshop, paper flower artist Amity Libby will guide students on garden explorations as they learn to “see†geometry in nature and discover the magic of the Fibonacci sequence. Students will identify patterns, shapes, and numbers in flower parts and petal arrangement, while also observing the overall “gesture†of the flower to inform their creative work. Back in the classroom, students will work with German and Italian crepe paper, scissors, glue, wire, and watercolor paints to re-create the flowers they studied in the garden with a special focus on learning to recreate eye-catching dahlia blooms. Amity will demonstrate different processes and techniques and assist each young artist in creating a beautiful bouquet of handmade summer blooms that will last long after the season ends. All materials for this workshop will be provided. A recommended list of supplies for further creative sessions at home will be included.
Note: Drop off for this camp starts at 9 a.m. Programming starts at 9:30 a.m. Pick up runs from 3:30-4 p.m.
Scholarships are available for families with financial need. To request an application, please email Beth Jarvis at ejarvis@mainegardens.org.
