Integrated Pest & Disease Management
Register Now:State Horticulturist Gary Fish leads this one-day class covering insects, diseases, and deficiencies found on plants in the landscape. Using the principles of integrated pest management (IPM), students will learn to identify, monitor, and prevent poor plant health and, when necessary, apply treatments. This class emphasizes preventative measures and helps students determine appropriate methods to mitigate pest and disease problems while supporting long-term plant health.
Instructor Bio(s)
Gary Fish is the State Horticulturist at the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry. He has been State Horticulturist since 2015. He has a B.S. in forest and wildlife management from the University of Maine, College of Forest Resources, and has been a licensed professional forester since 1985. He earned a Master of Policy, Planning and Management at USM in 2023. A landscape and nature photographer, he attributes his love of plants to his mother and her beautiful rose and rock gardens.
