Internationally acclaimed photographer and writer Cig Harvey joins the 16th Annual Ina & Lewis Heafitz Endowed Lecture Series to explore photography as a method of storytelling and the role of research, science, and writing in her creative practice. She will share how her work draws on sensory experience and examines the ephemeral nature of light, color, and vision. Harvey seeks out beauty, using it as a tool to elevate the experience of the everyday, and encourages her viewers to do the same. Her work is lush, bold, and intimate, transporting her audience into another world.

Instructor Bio(s)

Cig Harvey is a British/American photographer and writer whose practice explores sensory experiences in an attempt to acknowledge and accentuate the ordinary and everyday. Working in large-scale color photography and creative non-fiction, she roots her work in the natural world, focusing on time and what it is to feel. Cig is interested in the connection between life and death, and the experience of living. She uses beauty and color as an access point to explore universal themes and the importance of existence. Cig lives in Maine with her husband, Doug, and daughter Scout. The passing of time and the natural surroundings of her rural home have made her alert to the magic in the mundane. She is the author of five monographs.
