Ages: 8-13
Categories: Youth and Family
Location: The Gardens

Meet Maine author and educator, Katie Coppens whose chapter book series, ‘The Acadia Files’ teaches science through the adventures of Acadia, a fifth grader who lives in Maine. Acadia is curious about the world around her and gains knowledge based on real life scenarios. At the end of each chapter, Acadia draws about what she learns in her science notebook and designs an experiment based on her newfound knowledge. Katie will share her writing process, talk about getting published and do a geology experiment with participants who will get a science notebook to record the results of their experiment just like Acadia. Participants will be emailed a video of the author reading a chapter of one of her books to prepare for the activity.

Each homeschool ticket includes admission for a child and a chaperone. Any extra adults pay $12/each. Children under 3 are free and do not require a ticket. Families who register multiple children or enroll in multiple programs will receive a discount at checkout. Financial aid is available; please email Beth Jarvis at ejarvis@mainegardens.org for an application.
