Ages: 8-13

Location: The Gardens
Class Level: All Levels
This is a Multi-Day Event
Dates and times are listed below

Wednesday–Friday, August 26–28, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Young artists will create colorful pastel paintings inspired by guided journaling outdoors. Time spent sketching in nature encourages careful observation of color, light, shape, sound, and rhythms—which students will use to compose expressive paintings based on memory and personal response. As they learn to handle pastels, students use a variety of underpainting and mark-making techniques. Students will create a representational close-up, an abstracted floral piece, and an emotional interpretation of their chosen garden space or object. Each student will take home two to three matted paintings, their journals, and a basic pastel kit. All materials are provided.

Note: Drop off for this camp starts at 9 a.m. Programming starts at 9:30 a.m. Pick up runs from 3:30-4 p.m.

Scholarships are available for families with financial need. To request an application, please email Beth Jarvis at ejarvis@mainegardens.org.
