Painting the Garden In Wax (Ages 11-15)
Register Now:Wednesday–Friday, July 8–10, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Paint as the Ancient Egyptians once did! Explore encaustics with beeswax-based paint that can be sculpted, layered, and developed with a great variety of textures. Artist Helene Farrar will guide students as they venture out into the gardens to sketch “en plein air†and create studies that capture the form, movement, and color of the summer garden and its animal residents.
Back in the classroom, students will interpret their time in the garden into one-of-a-kind works of art using these rich, playful paints. Campers will leave with multiple finished pieces and much inspiration! All materials for this workshop are provided. A complete list of recommended supplies for continued creative exploration at home will be included.
Note: Drop off for this camp starts at 9 a.m. Programming starts at 9:30 a.m. Pick up runs from 3:30-4 p.m.
Scholarships are available for families with a financial need. To request an application, please email Beth Jarvis at ejarvis@mainegardens.org.
