Wednesday–Friday, October 14–16, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Explore the unique autumn landscapes at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and bring them to life through the art of acrylic painting. Discover how to capture the beauty of the changing seasons, from the colorful leaves of different tree species to October’s remaining blooms. Learn acrylic painting techniques to enhance your skills. Guided by Maine artist Susan Bartlett Rice, you’ll create your own paintings inspired by the stunning autumn surroundings. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a love for art and nature!

This three-day class will move between the classroom and outdoors, weather permitting.

Instructor Bio(s)

Susan Bartlett Rice is best known for her colorful paintings of Maine and, more recently, for her large-scale public murals in Damariscotta, Portland, Biddeford, and Portsmouth.

Rice’s education includes a BA in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Vermont with further studies in illustration at The Rhode Island School of Design. She has held positions at The RISD Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her work is shown in both public and private collections and has been featured in ArtNews, Downeast Magazine, and Maine Magazine.
