Ages: 14+ 8-13
Categories: Youth and Family
Location: The Gardens
Class Level: All Levels

In this family-friendly botanical art workshop, paper flower artist Amity Libby will guide students on garden explorations as they learn to “see†geometry in nature and discover the magic of the Fibonacci sequence. Students will identify patterns, shapes, and numbers in flower parts and petal arrangement, while also observing the overall “gesture†of the flower to inform their creative work. Back in the classroom, students will work with German and Italian crepe paper, scissors, glue, wire, and watercolor paints to re-create the flowers they studied in the garden with a special focus on learning to recreate one of our earliest and most colorful spring blooms, the elegant hellebore. Amity will demonstrate different processes and techniques and assist each participant in creating their own bouquet of spring blooms. Adults with a child taking the class may register separately to create their own paper flower bouquet. All materials for this workshop will be provided. A recommended list of supplies for further creative sessions at home will be included. Scholarships are available for families with financial need. To request an application, please email Beth Jarvis at ejarvis@mainegardens.org.
