Over time, parts of our landscapes are ready for a makeover. Rather than starting from scratch, most homeowners prefer to refresh what is already present. New ideas and changing needs can unlock the ability to reimagine how a space is used, structured, and planted. In this two-part workshop, we’ll cover essential design techniques for assessing, reshaping, and diversifying established gardens. Using unique areas within Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, we’ll explore how the structure, plants, and surroundings come together in a unified design. Back in the classroom, hands-on exercises will allow students to experiment with organization and visual appeal. Between sessions, students are encouraged to apply new ideas to a section of their own landscape for discussion and review during the second workshop. No prior design or drawing experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and an interest in creating meaningful garden experiences.
