Exploring Wetland Fauna (Webinar)

Join us for a visually captivating virtual introduction to the life inhabiting CMBG’s wetlands. From inconspicuous invertebrates to loveable herptiles (i.e., amphibians), discover the diversity that flourishes in these wetland waters. CMBG's Bridget VerVaet will help students learn ways to find and identify these creatures during their own nature walks.

This program is alternately available as an outdoor field-study class.

Budding Naturalist: Vernal Pools, Session 1 (Ages 10-14)

In April, Maine’s amphibians migrate to vernal pools to breed and lay eggs. During this session, participants will spend time exploring the Gardens’ many vernal pools in search of, among other residents, wood frog and spotted salamander eggs. Participants will learn how to tell the difference between these eggs as they help count egg masses for our annual survey. They will also learn what makes vernal pools unique and important, gaining an understanding of their role in the forest ecosystem.
